Store Room Overhaul

jenna January 25th, 2012

Happy CNY Everyone! Tony Sir has the following message for you–In the New Year, 229 rely on your efforts for a new and highly functional store room!
YIS
Madam Jenna
**************************************************************************************************************************************
Dear Scouts & Ventures,
As I said before, on this SAT, 28 JAN, we’ll have no regular scout/venture meeting but will overhaul our store room to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.  The planned program is that we will assemble at UGA at 1400 hours.  ALL present will assist to remove ALL things from the store room.  You will then be divided into small teams to work on the following tasks:
Team (A) Metal bar bamboo pole rack:  Dismantle the existing one and build a new one on-site;
Team (B) Metal storage racks: Adjust height of storage racks of the existing two metal storage racks;
Team (C) Additional metal storage rack: Build an additional metal storage rack and place the new one on top the existing one;
Team (D) Big bamboo poles: Use permanent marker pens to mark the big bamboo poles (diameter > 2″) with their height in feet on both ends of the poles;
Team (E) Small bamboo poles: Sort small bamboo poles (diameter about 1″) out by height (6′, 5′, 4′ etc.) for storing them back onto different racks by height;
Team (F) Scout wooden poles: Use permanent marker pen to mark non-standard scout wooden poles (those > or < 5′) with their height on both ends of the poles, and smooth all scout wooden poles with sand papers;
Team (G) Scout white ropes:  Check and dispose those which are non-usable;
After that, we will return all stuffs back to the store room in this order: small bamboo and wooden scout poles 1st, big bamboo poles 2nd, patrol boxes 3rd, follow by all others.  We’ll put all outstanding tent covers, related fly sheets, etc.  into the new wooden cardboard for checking and repairing later.
Please see attached plan for reference.  I’ll brief you in more details that day.  If you have, please bring one metal hammer (about 1′ long), one Philips screwdriver, one pliers (about 8″ long) and a pair of labour gloves to assist.  I hope we can finish by 1800 hours and go home.
It is your store room, your patrol gears, and your equipment, so I hope you make all efforts to show up to help, in particular SPL/PL/APL.  As I promised, I’ll give out Lai See to those who show up on 28 JAN.  See U and KHFC.

3 Dec Rundown – Revised

Ray Kwok December 2nd, 2011

Dear 229HKG parents and youth members,

Congratulations to Jane Lui of Scout Section!  She received her Chief Scout Award yesterday.  On 3 Dec, the Group will present the award badge to her to recognize her effort and achievement.  Item 5 of the rundown has been expanded to include the presentation.  Here’s the revised rundown for your information – 3 Dec – Rundown.

See you all tomorrow.

Cheers,

Ray Kwok

3 Dec – (Sat) Scout Promise Making (宣誓)/ Re-Making (覆誓)

Ray Kwok November 30th, 2011

Dear 229HKG parents and youth members,

The 2011-2012 Scout Promise Making (宣誓) and Re-Making (覆誓) for grasshopper socuts, cub scouts, scouts and venture scouts concerned, as well as appointment of new SPLs/PLs/APLs/Sixers/Seconds, will be held on 3 Dec (Sat) at 4:00-5:30pm at the open area (G/F) of HKUGAC.  Note that, depending on the preparatory work of each section, you may be requested by your section leader to show up earlier then 4:00pm.

Details of the rundown can be found at this link 3 Dec – Rundown.

A number of changes have been introduced this year to bring the 229HKG practice in line with Scout Association guideline.  Among the many changes, which will be shared with you by your section leaders, there are two major ones which I would like to highlight here:

1. Scout Promise Making for leaders has been removed from the rundown and will be held separately;

2. PLs/APLs/Sixers/Seconds assumed the same post as last year do not need to join the appointment ceremony this year.

Cub scouts, scouts and venture scouts are reminded to bring/put on scout sweater as the temperature will drop to and stay at 14-15 degrees in the next few days.  Non-scout sweater/jacket are not scout uniform.  Cub scouts, scouts and venture scouts do not conform with scout uniform guideline will be requested not to join the ceremony.

Could grasshopper scouts, cub scouts, scouts venture scouts concerned (the names are highlighted in blue in the rundown) please be well prepared for the ceremony – in particular the questions/answers, Scout Promise and Scout Law.  Check with your section leader as soon as possible if you don’t know what/how to prepare.

Please feel free to contact your section leader or me should you have any queries.

Yours in Scouting,

Ray Kwok
